Superfoods
With the start of 2020 coming up soon, we wanted to compile a list of five superfoods that are good for the body. With this list, we hope that you become inspired to kickstart the new year with a healthy bang!
Dark Leafy Greens
Strong in nutrients such as zinc, iron, calcium, folate, magnesium and fibre, dark leafy greens have the potential to decrease risk of chronic heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. In your everyday diet, it’s helpful to include dark leafy greens such as kale, turnip greens, spinach and Swiss chard.
Berries
These fruits are high in antioxidants and fibre, making them amazing additions to your diet. Naturally sweet and delicious, some of the more common types of berries include strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and raspberries. This superfood has even been associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as cancer, inflammatory issues and heart problems so sprinkle some on your breakfast or add it to your dessert!
Green Tea
A wonderful way to kick start the day, a lovely mid-afternoon pick me up and a soothing drink following a meal, these are all ways in which green tea can be enjoyed. This beverage is rich in antioxidants and is a strong anti-inflammatory. Green tea is also often used as an effective tool in one’s weight loss journey.
Nuts & Seeds
Rich in fibre and healthy fats that are good for the heart, nuts and seeds are packed with antioxidant properties and can help with anti-inflammation. Great to snack on, some commonly found nuts and seeds include almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, chia seeds and sunflower seeds.
Fermented Foods
Gut health is all the rage and our favourite way to improve ours is through eating fermented foods such as yogurt, kimchi, miso and sauerkraut! These foods are full of beneficial bacteria that supports our body’s microbiome, helping with weight, immunity and digestion.
